ASSOCIATE SPOTLIGHT SERIES: AN INTERVIEW WITH WINSON
August 20, 2025

In our Associate Spotlight series, we are highlighting associates across the company who are shaping our community and who embody our Centric Brands philosophy every day.
Meet Winson Liu, Senior Designer, Technical Design, Centric Brands Asia. Winson’s story embodies the spirit of continuous growth, collaborative excellence, and balanced living.
From Family Legacy to Technical Excellence
Growing up with parents in the fashion industry, Winson was introduced to the world of apparel at a young age. His parents became his first teachers, nurturing both his aesthetic sensibilities and technical understanding of apparel construction. This early influence shaped his perspective on clothing, not just as fashion, but as a combination of form and function.
Interestingly, Winson’s university studies weren’t in fashion design or engineering, yet when graduation arrived, he chose the fashion industry without hesitation. He began by learning the essentials: paper pattern design, cutting, sewing, and quality control. Over time, he built a broad technical foundation and continues to stay current with innovations, including 3D apparel design.
As a senior technical designer on the Buffalo tech team in our Guangzhou office, Winson serves as a bridge between design and production. His primary responsibility centers on apparel sample approval—meticulously reviewing sample measurements, assessing fitting effects, evaluating construction quality, and examining workmanship to ensure every piece meets our exacting standards.
His work involves close coordination with production and technical teams across Guangzhou, Montreal, and New York, creating an efficient, cross-regional workflow. Currently, he is dedicated to Buffalo, Merrell, and Lane Bryant, and shares several team management responsibilities with his line manager.
Turning Challenges into Opportunities
Winson approaches challenges with curiosity and determination. He maintains enthusiasm for his work, viewing problems as opportunities to improve and learn. When facing unfamiliar issues, he actively seeks input from colleagues and his supervisor, seeing collaboration as a strength, not a fallback.
He also prioritizes managing stress through open communication and regular exercise, helping him stay motivated and focused on both routine tasks and complex projects.
Fostering Strong Team Connections
Winson values the importance of a positive, collaborative work environment, especially in an industry where teamwork spans multiple functions and locations. By maintaining open communication and contributing positively to team dynamics, he helps create an atmosphere where work flows more smoothly and colleagues can support each other effectively.
Balancing Work and Well-Being
For Winson, working well and living well go hand in hand. During work hours, he stays focused on delivering quality outcomes. Outside of work, he makes time for family and maintains an exercise routine, particularly running and strength training, which helps him recharge and return to work energized.
