LEADERSHIP SPOTLIGHT SERIES: AN INTERVIEW WITH JAIME GONZALEZ
May 23, 2025

In our Leadership Spotlight Series, we are highlighting executives across our Company who are driving innovation, transforming business practices, and positively impacting the communities where we live and work.
With a deep appreciation for creativity and operational excellence, Jaime Gonzalez, Senior Vice President, Design and Merchandising, Accessories, reflects on his team’s accomplishments, the challenges he’s overcome, and the lessons that continue to shape his leadership. His thoughtful perspective highlights a commitment to elevating both people and product while navigating change with clarity and confidence.
How do you incorporate our leadership commitments into your decision-making and interactions with your team?
I like to think that I’m building a community where I encourage people to show up as authentically as they feel comfortable. This allows my team to build confidence and express themselves while sharing unique perspectives that challenge us to look at things through different lenses. When people bring their authentic selves to work, we benefit from diverse viewpoints that ultimately strengthen our decision-making.
What is the most significant thing your team has achieved since you started?
I’m most proud of the evolution of our category—the designs, creativity and quality of our jewelry has never been better. Our team has executed product excellence without compromising the integrity of the design. A huge thank you to the Team —it’s no easy feat to balance business constraints with creative vision, yet they manage to continuously elevate our offerings.
What are your top priorities for your team in the coming months?
Our top priority is to drive operational efficiency. As the business landscape continues to evolve, our processes must be continuously examined and refined to keep up with demand. We need to ensure we’re not just creating beautiful products but doing so in ways that are sustainable and scalable for the business.
What aspects of Centric’s culture have you found most aligned with your leadership style?
I think they all speak to me in different ways. As a People Manager, I try to lead by example and set the tone with a positive mindset. I guide the Team to accomplish their goals by empowering them to make decisions and take ownership of their roles, while providing constructive feedback along the way. I also create forums where they can give me feedback in return. I’m constantly learning from their perspective, which has been invaluable to my growth as a leader.
What is a challenge you’ve faced in your career so far and how did you overcome it?
I think the pandemic was a big challenge, and one that many of us can relate to. We’d never seen anything like it in our lives. As scary as it was, it taught me the power of optimism, community and trust. These three pillars enable us to navigate unprecedented uncertainties and difficulties and emerge stronger.
What significant changes have you witnessed in terms of trends, technologies and cultural influences throughout your career?
Fashion continues to move at a faster pace. Trends disappear as quickly as they emerge. Technology has also evolved, altering the way we consume and receive information. With so much access, our shopping habits have transformed as well. It’s important to stay ahead of the curve while remaining as nimble as possible so we can react, and pivot as needed. Embracing change is the only way to thrive in this industry—fighting against it only leads to obsolescence.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Believe in your voice and don’t be afraid to listen to it. Too often we second-guess our instincts or allow others’ opinions to drown out our inner wisdom, especially early in our careers.
What key lessons have you learned since joining Centric?
I’ve learned to approach obstacles with a collaborative mindset. We don’t always have the answer to every problem, but by allowing your team to provide different perspectives, collectively we arrive at a result. The diversity of thought and experience at Centric has shown me that the strongest solutions often come from bringing varied viewpoints to the table.
How would your friends describe you?
My friends and family would say I’m funny and a bit crazy, but loyal and reliable. I’m a tough love type of person. My feedback at times can be brutally honest but always comes with a lot of heart and care. I believe in pushing people to reach their potential while providing the support they need to get there.
What’s something surprising that not many people know about you?
I once tried to pursue a career in songwriting!
